HOW TO WORK WITH A RECRUITER
Utilizing a recruiter is an amazing, free resource to use alongside your own job search. We often tell our candidates to continue applying on their own, utilizing their personal connections and networking. We are here as your advocate in your job search, and that doesn’t just apply to the roles we have you interviewing for. Some tips to take full advantage of industry experts below.
Know what you want and BE HONEST.
Prior to setting up a call or meeting with a recruiter, think about what you are looking for in your next opportunity. Some things to think about… What types of roles are you looking for? Industry preference? Company size? Title? Job location? Salary expectations? Benefits and perks? Timeline (upcoming vacation, life event, or waiting on a bonus to be paid out)? Career goals? Addressing movement or career gaps? (recruiters can usually spin these for the positive!) The more you provide your recruiter with, the better they will be able to help you find your dream job. We build our reputations on creating long term matches so the more information we have, the better we can help you.
Ask for feedback in all aspects of your search.
With years of experience under our belts, we are subject matter experts when it comes to the job market and how to put your best foot forward in your search. Tap on your recruiter for resume help, interview feedback, realistic expectations on salary, career growth and how to get what you want in a job offer.
Be Responsive!
Making time to job hunt while working full time can be difficult so lean on your recruiter. We as recruiters do our best to work with your schedule. The job market moves quickly so we advise candidates to check email, text and voicemail often and respond ASAP. Responsiveness also applies to feedback. If the role we send you isn’t a match, tell us why. The sooner we get your feedback, the quicker we can pivot and start identifying roles that excite you.
Prep with them!
Recruiters work for you. They often have amazing tips and tricks up their sleeve when it comes to interview prep. The good ones will often role play interview scenarios with you to make sure you are ready and framing answers to shine. Recruiters typically get insider tips from repeat companies as their relationship grows with organizations, which can give you a leg up in the interview process.
Trust US with the process.
Working with a recruiter can be one of the most efficient ways candidates find strong suited, quality opportunities and clients identify top talent. If a recruiter runs a role by you, do NOT use that information to go apply directly with the employer. Recruiters work directly with hiring managers and leadership, meaning your resume is going to the top of their email vs. the large database within HR systems, when applying yourself. Let us handle the application and interview process for you, unless specified otherwise. We provide a service to our candidates and the companies we work with, which includes making the process simple and streamlined.
